SUMMER 2009 WEEK 6 + POTW: Fraser Nelson

This week's POTW comes from Fraser Nelson, who has proven himself to be an excellent photographer through Peak work such as the SFSS portrait session, the cover photo for the Arthur Erickson issue, and his coverage of the Sun Wizard concert.

In the shot, Fraser captured the dude making a jump right at the edge of the building's shadow. That was key in making the picture work as the light and dark parts split the frame in half (diagonally too, which adds a ton of interest) and provides some asymmetry to the composition. The fruit scooter was then lit by the bit of sunlight shining over the building, and it really makes the subject pop out. The timing was also right on, obviously.

Whoa! Just realized it's all news so far this week. The features articles are basically done since one is about a girl's trip through the Maritimes (where she took hundreds of photos), and the other about The Sims. We MAY have some arts stuff (bands and concerts) later in the month, I will keep you posted!
