The Photo of the Week this time is by long-time photographer Steve Fan. He shot this while on vacation in Hawaii, but never got a chance to talk with the subject."He's a surfer. He stood there, watching for waves and tried to catch it, for hours!"
Along with having great color, this photo uses the rule of 3rds really well. Shooting vertically was very effective since it puts the surfer in perspective with the big blue sky. The inclusion of the birds in the frame is great as it takes the readers' eyes from the surfer to the distant horizon, and finally to the vast blue sky.
